Buddy Requests
Sunnyvale AYSO has updated the buddy request policy. We understand children like to play with their friends, but **Balanced Teams** is one of our core philosophies, and buddy requests can not interfere with that. **The new policy is as follows:**
* Players may request one (1) buddy at the time of registration. No change requests will be considered once a registration is submitted.
* Buddies must be mutually requested
* Any request not meeting these requirements will be disregarded
Buddy requests can generally be accommodated in the lower divisions (up to U8). However as the players get older, skill levels increase and the number of teams decreases, it is less likely that a request can be accommodated.
Also, every player gets only one request,
no additional buddy placements will be made for medical reasons
. If your child has special needs please note it in the medical section of their registration.
In order to make a buddy request, please enter the buddy's name (first and last) in the sibling box of the registration form. **NO REQUESTS TO ADD BUDDIES WILL BE ACCCEPTED VIA EMAIL.**
Division Assignment
Players are generally assigned to a division based on their age. Children may play in a higher division than is usual for their age, but never lower. If you would like to request that your child play up please notify the [[board:contacts|registrar]] when you submit your registration. **Please note that requests to be moved up a division are on a space-available basis - players may be moved back to their age group if the higher division fills up.**

Volunteers
Since AYSO is an
all volunteer
organization, it is imperative that every family volunteers in some capacity. It takes between 400-500
volunteers to run our region each year.
We therefore give priority
to those who volunteer.
If we are short on coaches we are forced to put players on the waiting list. Children are given priority to be placed on teams by the following criteria:
- Children of those who volunteer to coach, referee or serve on the regional board
- Children of those that volunteer for regional support positions (e.g. registration worker, field stripers, uniforms, equipment. These do not include the team volunteer positions, e.g. snacks, club linesman, banner, party organizer, team picture coordinator.)
- Non-volunteers that registered before team formation begins (Feb 1st)
- Non-volunteers that registered late (after team formation begins.)
Sunnyvale AYSO provides training for coaches, referees, and board members at no cost to the volunteer (except your time!) This training is among the best available from any youth sports organization and AYSO's coach training is accredited by the NCACE. Please see the [[volunteers:home|Volunteers]] page for details on how to register as a volunteer, or contact the [[board:contacts|Regional Commissioner]] about regional needs.
